Can Breast Implants become infected?

The incidence of infection following breast augmentation surgery is less than 1%. Because breast implants have no blood supply, antibiotic treatment of infection in the pocket where the implants are placed is usually ineffective. The best treatment is implant removal to allow the infection to clear and replacement at a later date as early as three months.
