Can breast implants be rejected?

Both silicone gel breast implants and saline breast implants, which have a silicone shell, are well tolerated by the body. Implants are not rejected as in organ transplantation. However, removal may be indicated due to infection or recurrent severe capsular contracture. The incidence of this occurring is less than 1%.
