Combining Cosmetic Surgeries
Indianapolis, Indiana
Patients often seek consultation for multiple types of cosmetic surgery. One of the questions that they consistently ask is about the risks and benefits of performing multiple procedures together with a single anesthetic.
This is true of patients following bariatric surgery who may request surgery on multiple areas, or women who come for a mommy makeover and often request correction of breast and abdominal problems after their pregnancy. Patients for facial rejuvenation may have areas of concern involving their face, neck, and forehead. Nasal deformities may have associated chin and neck problems. Finally, commonly performed combined procedures are breast augmentation with tummy tuck, eyelid, facelift and brow lift surgery, and extensive liposuction combined with another procedure.
Dr. Linderman believes that in the vast majority of cases, it is usually in the patient's best interest to combine procedures in one operation. There are many reasons for this. For one, facility and anesthesia fees can be significantly reduced. Second, overall recovery is shortened and a more dramatic result is obtained. However, these benefits must be balance against the slightly increased risks of complications.
It is preferable to keep to the total time of anesthesia under six-and-a-half hours as there are some studies that complication rates do go up after this length of time. Other considerations in making this decision are the overall health of the patient.
If you are interested in having more than one cosmetic surgery procedure performed at a time, please contact Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of Indiana to schedule an initial consultation. Dr. Linderman will decide which procedures to combine to enhance your appearance in the safest and most aesthetically pleasing way.
