Liposuction Questions
Dr. Linderman was one of the first surgeons to perform liposuction in the Indianapolis area in 1982. Over the years he has continually adopted further innovations including tumescent infusion, ultrasonic liposuction, and circumferential body contouring to produce the best results with minimal complications.
Dr. Linderman performs a high lateral tension abdominoplasty which is a more innovative type of tummy tuck to lessen scarring in the pubic area while tightening the thigh skin and permitting aggressive liposuction during surgery to further define the waist and if indicated perform circumferential body contouring.
2. What is ultrasonic liposuction?
Ultrasonic liposuction employs high frequency sound waves to gently liquefy fat with minimal damage to the surrounding cells. It is particularly useful in removal of fat from areas that tend to be more fibrous in nature such as the hips, back and male chest regions.
3. What is circumferential body contouring?
Circumferential body contouring or (CBC) is simply an approach to maximize results by treating body areas circumferentially either with liposuction or in combination with a skin excision procedure such as abdominoplasty.
4. How long does liposuction surgery take and what is the recovery?
Liposuction alone may take between 1 to 3 hrs., depending upon the number of areas treated and the amount of fat to be removed. Bruising may persist up to 1-2 weeks. Time off work may vary from a couple days to one week.
5. What factors determine who is a candidate for liposuction?
Although age and the amount of fat to be removed are a consideration, the most important factor is the overall skin quality and elasticity. If the skin is of poor quality, little contraction occurs after fat removal, causing skin contour irregularity. Skin excision techniques may be a better alternative.
6. What is tumescent infusion?
Tumescent infusion is the infiltration of a large volume of a salt-water solution usually with epinephrine added that allows more efficient fat removal with less bleeding.
