What to Expect the Day of Surgery

Regardless of which procedure you are having done, there are certain things to expect on the day of your surgery. Knowing what will happen that day will help you to be prepared and may even allay some of the fears you may bring with you.
Some of the most common suggestions Dr. Linderman offers his cosmetic surgery patients include:
Arrive early as surgeries are usually on a very exact, tight schedule. Being late could mean having to reschedule your procedure, which will waste time and resources.
Do not eat or drink for as long before the surgery as Dr. Linderman instructed you to. This may even include avoiding a glass of water the night before surgery. If your surgery involves the abdomen, an empty bowel is also necessary. Dr. Linderman will provide instructions for your preoperative diet, and you must pay careful attention to these instructions.
Pack light and have comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
Bring important papers, insurance information, and current medications.
Arrange for someone to drive you home and care for you as long as necessary.
Remove all jewelry and nail polish prior to surgery.
Leave valuables at home.
After surgery, you will be taken to a recovery (postoperative) area where staff will care for and observe you for as long as necessary as directed by Dr.Linderman. Then you will either be moved to another room or go home; if you go home, the recovery nurse usually gives you written instructions to follow. Dr. Linderman may also give you special instructions.
