According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number one cosmetic surgical procedure in 2007 was liposuction. While we tend to associate liposuction with women, it was also the number one procedure for men. Over 57,000 men underwent liposuction in 2007 and another 20,000 had surgical procedures including liposuction to reduce male breast enlargement or gynecomastia.
Many men are just as concerned about their appearance these days as women have been in the past. Men also tend to regard some of the same areas of their body with as much worry as their female counterparts. The reason is simple: as men age, their body begins to show it, just like women. Those six-pack abs no longer seem to be as defined, and chest muscles may be non-existent, and no matter how hard they exercise and diet, these areas of the body just won’t cooperate and they want to change this.

Liposuction of the Abdomen and Love Handles
If you have areas of particular concern that bother men such as fatty deposits of the flanks or so called “love handles”, abdominal fat in the lower abdomen, or male breast enlargement due to fat or excess breast tissue, then cosmetic surgery may be an option you should consider.
Men have a tendency to localize fat in their flanks and abdomen. Some men will have extreme abdominal fullness in the upper and lower abdomen. Depending upon the location of the fat it may be very treatable with liposuction. Dr. Linderman employs ultrasonic liposuction with tumescent technique for the most effective removal of the more fibrous fat that men usually have. Intraabdominal fat surrounding your internal organs is located deep to the abdominal muscles and cannot be removed with liposuction. Love handles are very treatable with liposuction but the overall elasticity of your skin must be evaluated to see how well it will contract.
Liposuction of the Neck
Another area of concern for men is loss of neck definition due to fatty deposits and excess skin of the neck. Depending upon fat location in relation to the neck muscles and skin quality, liposuction may be a consideration for you to improve your neckline.

Although men and women are different genders and may have different ideas about how their bodies should look, the tumescent liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction procedures work on men just as well as they do women. In the past men were less likely to visit a cosmetic surgeon for help meeting the aesthetic goals they’d set for themselves because this type of surgery was viewed as more procedures aimed at women.
