Tumescent Liposuction
Dr. Richard Linderman at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of Indiana was the first surgeon to begin performing liposuction in the Indianapolis area in 1983 after being trained by French Surgeon, Dr. Yves-Gerard Illouz in this revolutionary procedure. Prior to the development of liposuction, no methods were available to treat localized areas of fat resistant to diet and exercise. Excisional techniques created long scars with significant complications. The development of this less invasive technique with minimal scarring to fatty deposits of the hips, thighs and abdomen was a significant advancement. Several years later the tumescent technique was developed.

The Technique
Highly trained cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Richard Linderman performs the tumescent technique on all of his liposuction patients. After antiseptic skin preparation, the areas for liposuction are infused with a balance salt solution containing a local anesthetic and epinephrine. This reduces bleeding and allows removal of a larger amount of fat in a single session with less postoperative pain. The tumescent solution creates increased tissue firmness allowing easier and more precise fat removal.
After completion of the liposuction, a compressive garment is applied to reduce swelling and bruising and mold the overlying skin to the desired contour. You may shower about three days after surgery and light physical exercise is encouraged to reduce swelling. Most normal activities can be resumed in two to three weeks
