Not all patients that seek improvement in the abdomen require a full tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. For some individuals a mini tummy tuck may be a better alternative to address their concerns. A mini tummy tuck treats problems primarily combines to the lower abdomen and usually combines liposuction of the abdomen with a more limited bikini incision and tightening of the muscles of the lower abdomen.The mini abdominoplasty does not manage as much excess skin as the standard abdominoplasty, and is generally unable to address laxity in the upper abdominal muscles.Umbilical transposition is not required. Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery
A mini tummy tuck usually takes around an hour and a half to perform but may vary with the individual depending on size and liposuction. The planned incision is shorter than a full tummy tuck and marked inside your bathing suit lines for concealment. Dr. Linderman will perform liposuction where requires, tighten the lower abdominal muscles and remove the excess skin. A drain is usually placed which may be removed in three to six days. Recovery will vary among patients but usually you can return to work in one week. Strenuous exercise and aerobics may be allowed in three to four weeks. As the mini tummy tuck is a less invasive procedure, recovery is generally quicker. Good candidates are patients with muscle and skin laxity combines to the lower abdomen. The umbilicus is not repositioned and skin above it is not tightened. For many women this is a wonderful procedure to treat the effects of pregnancy.
Post Mini Tummy Tuck
As with all operations there are risks. Some are more major than others. General risks are infection, bleeding, fluid collection after drain removal , numbness and scarring. Skin irregularity can occur from liposuction but is uncommon because of the skin tightening from excess skin removal.
