Permanence of Plastic Surgery
The amount of time the results of your plastic surgery will last depends upon the type of procedure you've had, but it also largely depends on you. If you take care of yourself, maintain a healthy body weight and follow your doctor's recommendations, the results of many plastic surgery procedures can be considered permanent.
Long Lasting Procedures
Many procedures, including facelifts, eye lifts, and other work intended to reduce signs of aging, can provide nearly permanent results. You will, of course, continue to grow older, which could cause additional lines to the face, loose skin, or other common issues of natural aging, but overall these are long-lasting procedures that will keep you looking young for years to come.
Body contouring procedures are long-lived, as well, as long as you take care of yourself. If you've had a tummy tuck or thigh lift to remove fat from your body, and then practice poor nutrition and gain a great deal of weight, the results of your plastic surgery will likely be largely undone. By the same token, if you decide to become pregnant after a tummy tuck or breast lift, the natural changes pregnancy brings to your body could undo the results of your surgery.
Repeat Procedures
A breast augmentation can last many years - the average breast implant lasts seven to twelve years - but implants tend to wear out and can tear or rupture. If this happens, they must be removed. They can, of course, be replaced if you so choose.
The results of liposuction can be difficult to maintain but, as above, if you stick to a sensible diet and exercise program and keep yourself healthy, you can prevent your body from rebuilding the fat deposits you had removed.
In general, plastic surgery can bring permanent changes to your body, but, especially in the case of body contouring, you have to do your part to maintain those changes. Maintaining good health and following your doctor's post-operative instructions can go a long way toward long-term, satisfactory results.
