Are You a Candidate for Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty?
Carmel and Indianapolis, Indiana
There are a number of different indications for performing a tummy tuck procedure. One of the most common complaints prospective patients have is that they have an excess of redundant skin of the abdomen. Both male and female candidates may have a history of fluctuations in weight, as well as sudden and dramatic weight loss. Post partum changes in women who have just gone through pregnancy are also candidates for a tummy tuck due to their slack abdominal region. Depending upon the location of the excess skin, either a full or mini tummy tuck may be indicated.
If the skin excess is located only in the lower abdomen below the umbilicus then a mini tummy tuck without transposition of the belly button might be performed. Frequently after a C-section, women will have an unsightly scar, lower abdominal wall muscle laxity and excess skin just above the scar. These women are ideal candidates for a mini tummy tuck.
Other indications are diffuse stretch marks of the abdomen and laxity of the abdominal wall muscles extending from the pubic area to above the umbilicus. Skin laxity above the umbilicus requires umbilical transposition. People who present this issue are good candidates for a full tummy tuck.
In addition to skin and muscle problems, fat distribution and amount is considered in determining the appropriate operation. Usually liposuction is performed for this as part of Mini or Full Tummy Tuck depending upon other factors.
