Breast Augmentation and Scarring
Carmel, Fishers, and Indianapolis, Indiana
Is there scarring associated with breast augmentation? Yes there are scars associated with breast augmentation but this it true of any surgical procedures requiring an incision. However incisions used to perform breast augmentation surgery are usually short and well place to minimize visibility. With proper technique and careful surgical closure a scar of good quality is anticipated but not guaranteed. All patients produce different quality scars and some patients may be prone to have thicker wider scars. However by placing the scar in a good location such as in the fold underneath the breast, even a suboptimal scar can be hidden. Other procedures such as mastopexy and breast reduction may require longer more extensive incisions. Generally scars quality will improve with time up to eighteen months after surgery.
Other types of scarring include capsular contracture, which is internal scarring around a breast implant, which can cause breast hardness, implant distortion and even pain. Internal release or capsulotomy, total scar removal with capsulectomy and implant relocation with exchange are some methods that are used to treat this problem. With over thirty years of experience, Dr. Richard Linderman is able to form a sound sugical plan to treat problems of breast scarring.
